Terraced house
Ladbroke Grove — London
Set on the Regent’s Canal in London, but also fronting onto Ladbroke Grove, this 5-level house was once the canal-keeper’s house, the lower levels storing hay, horses and coaches but more recently reincarnated as a motorbike workshop, before becoming a home and showcase for collector and designer, Hubert Zandberg.
The quirky rooms had to be maximised and cleverly utilised. Hubert’s South African roots intermingle with his natural curiosity toward all things unique, the result is a multi-layered, dense interior that covers diverse categories including: contemporary furniture, modernist design and antiques; objet trouvé; a cabinet of curiosities including natural history, trench art, tribal art and taxidermy; and Hubert’s own bespoke contemporary designs. Amidst the multi layers and complexities, what has been created for Hubert is a surprisingly calm environment.
